No rich its completely worn off. It had never crossed my mind that my MA60 missing its cap was an issue as it has been missing it since i got the lantern and its always run up my previous three 180w lamps perfectly fine (to my knowledge) without it.

I’m with Mark here, a motor start one will be far easier to get hold of than the genuine Philips one, and will do the same job, of course, try and match the mF and voltage requirements.

the bright red is due to argon absorbsion, there is only 1% argon? and 99% neon. there was a bsx180 on ebay you need a sx73 also on ebay. the 4.4uf cap is unobtainable, but Danny i have a spare one. i got four of them from hamilton when they were still making ma fittings.
