Lamps were good no 2 ways about it but the ballasts are pretty much all shite. It’s a shame the magnetic version never caught on they would be laughing then or the 20W version that was in development.

I can’t fully comment on this as we never use them here, but the ones I saw in use in Northampton were a really poor choice!
Tiny blinding points of light that put very little on the road surface is how I saw them!
They were slightly better in Cornwall at lower mount heights, but as for the pricing, I doubt cheaper systems from Philips would have ever saved the Cosmo concept, as LED, like it or not, was vastly superior from an energy saving standpoint.

The lamps were as good as any CMH and long lived and efficient but the price of them is what let it down, and as mentioned the electronic only ballasts. Still those I saw installed looked good and performed well.
For the cost it would be much cheaper to use the standard range of G12 CMH lamps, though lamp life may be less?

For some unknown reasons, these lamps have a run-up time of less than a min. Why?
I love see run-up and hot restrike of HID lamps, mainly on timed ignitors, and spectra of metal halide lamps.
