8' Tube - Only £30 Each!

Put anything here that's badly designed/made, failed, catastrophically exploded or just an epic fail in a general sort of way.

8' Tube - Only £30 Each!

Postby Slyspark » Wed Apr 01, 2026 1:15 am

Seriously, do people really still think they're sitting on a gold mine when they have a stock of 8' tubes to sell... I mean, you can barely even GIVE the things away these days, let alone sell them. I remember when they first talked about getting shot of them (and only Sylvania were producing them by then anyway) and they were aroiunf £24+ VAT each at the wholesalers. No-one could justify that, when a twin fitting would cost you £60 to put 2 tubes in (and with their crappy stick cathodes, you'd be lucky to get a years worth of light from) yet a whole new 6' twin fitting, complete with BRIGHTER Triphosphotr tubes cost less. Anyway, seems someone didn't get the message:

Like ANYONE is stupid enough these days to pay that. The 100w Sylvania I have stock of still (and ONE customer who actually buys them from me) I sell for £4 a tube. And even then, I'm never going to shift all the ones I still have, so ultimately, I'll probably lamp bin most of my 100w.
Bad choices make good stories!

I have managed to shift 100w for about £10 a tube. I will shift 3/4 every few years for a drink or a dinner to a news agents who just can't be arsed removing the fittings. (Grey sided twin atlas and crompacks) Not once has there been an issue with any of the fixtures so he just relamps and I don't blame him.
