What is it with 'explosion proof' fittings???

Why do these seem to always have such a huge pricetag? They've for the most part not been cleaned up or rewired to anything that's easy to get, most are SRS, so getting spare lamps unless you're one of us won't be easy to start with. The one in the link above isn't even anything special to look at......

On that note, there's a garage near here with 6 of these lighting the workshop. Half no longer work and no-one seems to ever fix them. Maybe I should offer to re-light the place for free with weatherpacks and then make some money by selling the old fittings on?

I'd love to get my hands on a twin 40w version but I doubt I ever will at those prices!

I got a twin 2' 40w version for £40 - brand new too! Seller had no idea what it was and hadn't done a very good job of listing it. Stands on-end in a corner of my office now where it makes an excellent table lamp!

I had one 5ft 58w s/s and i ended up stripping gear & weighing it in!! Totally unpratical
