Had a call-out to a charity shop today as the light in their stock room wasn't working. Someone had previously been called out to fix it and they told the people in the shop that it was shot, needed to be replaced and they'd be best getting an LED fitting as 'you can't get the tubes any more'. Utter bollocks! installed in the stock room were 2, Fitzy 6' twin battens with troughs that can't have been much older than maybe 5 yrs. One had 2 stuck starters, other had a stuck starter and a blown lamp. A re-lamp and 4 new starters and all work fine, just have to hope that the ballasts didn't get left with stuck starters for too long else they might yet smoke out. Still, even then it can easily be fixed!
Point is tho that some people really do talk bollocks - 6' T8 tubes are still common as muck - think someone was clearly trying to rip them off, what a shame they didn't ever go back!

Quite, that was my thinking. In contrast, being a charity, I supplied the parts at cost and did the labour half price. Think they were quiet glad the other guy didn't return.
