LED 8w "replacement"

This thing is intended for use in 12v 8w fluorescent lights mostly in caravans and other motor homes. The tube apparently has 96% running costs which is obviously made up. I would never put one of these in any of my 8w fittings because fluorescent is so much better.

Some quotes from the description that are probably false:

Please note in T5 light fittings the starter would need to be removed to able this LED to work

It's ok, i don't think anyone will be using this tube for longer than few seconds

And how would the primitive single transistor inverter cope with that? Blow up within a second? Is interesting how the standard 8W size is out of stock.

If that's designed to run directly off a 12v DC supply and not off the control gear in a conventional fluorescent fitting, it shouldn't be on sale. All that's going to happen here, will be for people to install this in a conventional fitting, then wonder why it basically explodes when switched on. That's dangerous, end of. If they want to design something to run on 12v, it should be incapable of being connected to a mains supply. I;d be amazed if this complies with any regs anywhere. One for trading standards maybe?

When current limited to ~200mA max by a 4-6-8W T5 choke, electronics don't explode, they glow incandescent and smoke

I've reported this to the Trading Standards department in the county in which the item is 'supposedly' in stock. We'll see....

Typical Chinese thinking, they know 8 watts tubes run both on mains and 12 volt, so probably think the LED version works the same way?
