In a perfect world, this is what street lighting should have become?, this is an 1800 Kelvin, Decor Amber LED, and although not a perfect match for HPS or SOX, they would be a nice replacement lamp for Street lighting applications?
It’s just a shame they don’t currently do these in a higher lumen output that 806 lumens?

I think the reason for most LED lanterns being of a cooler colour temperature is because the closer to blue the colour, the more efficient they are. I prefer the warmer colour temperature lanterns for sure. The new bus station which is being built at Bishop is going to be using 3000k LED lanterns. The warmer colour temp LED lanterns definitely look a lot better than the harsh 6500k/6000k ones.

The LED street lighting that one of the neighbouring LA’s has standardised on, is the ‘N and S Line’ range made by Holophane. The daytime appearance of these lanterns is certainly more aesthetically pleasing than the Vmax installed where I live. They also emit quite a pleasant warm white light when lit.

Granted, the SOX and SON lanterns are pretty much extinct around here, but at least the street lighting is consistent across the borough now.

Interestingly, I do still like SOX and regularly run one in my back garden (a t/e Mk16 Beta Five). For the other lanterns in use, I made my own ‘Repro SOX’ using tubular LED striplights and theatrical coloured polyester sheet.

I also find the cheap ‘daylight’ LED lamps can almost be believed to by an MBF, when installed in one of my old Eleco top entry lanterns.

It all looks pretty convincing at night, yet not so bright that the scale of the garden is lost.
