Yeah that's the trouble with one that's been in a commercial kitchen, no end of grease!

I've twin 8w 2ft 20w t12 those funky 4pin u bent lamps and the chinky is one that used a 22w circuline

A nice selection, always found those funny 4 pin U tubes interesting, though probably harder to find than the standard sizes.

You mean the FUL lamps rom japan, with a g10-q base (the same as circular FL)ß f so these are still fairly obtainable because they are standard lamps in Japan, even thu here they are only found in imported stuff...

Commercial kitchen or not, soak it in sodium hypochlorite degreaser, let it soak properly and hose off. You can probably get high concentration (or dissolvables that can generate high concentration) for swimming pools. Though at some point it'll probably also attack any metals (aluminum, copper in gear), and generally be as dangerous as a high concentration alkaline solution gets, which also emits chlorine when it reacts with anything

So far i managed quite bad fittings (grease, nicotine) with just ordinary bleach

At that point the fitting would need a complete strip down to its component parts and have them cleaned individually to keep the gear well away from anything corrosive. Then a soak in hot water with washing up liquid and a scrubbing sponge will shift a fair amount of the surface grease to start with too.
For a bug zapper could probably put the wire guard and killing grid in a dishwasher too to clean those up.

@Alex, yeah that is it, the FUL lamps. Occasionally seen them in camping lanterns too but the white ones seem harder to find than the BL ones. I do think they look quite cool being such large diameter U tubes.

The concentration used in bleach / oven cleaner won't destroy magnetic gear (including terminals) if washed off within a few minutes. It will delete the etch though

True yes, though I've mostly found when cleaning up mucky fluorescent battens and the like that the ballasts are never hugely dirty being enclosed and a wipe over with baby wipes is usually sufficient to clean them up.

I've managed to get a second hand P+L systems Exocutor 2x8W zapper now, much better built with a decent high voltage transformer and switchstart gear. Luckily it seems to have had very little use and there was no grease or even soot marks from the lamps/gear or yellowed lamp holders, so a wipe over was all it needed to come up like new.

Same one I have.

They seem to be one of the best and most sturdy looking ones. I've also seen some Insect-a-clear branded ones which look similar and well built too.
