My personal favourites from a collection point of view are Fluorescent and Mercury lamps.
Next best comes sodium of all types: SLI/H, SO/H, SOI/H. SOX and SON.
Then it's probably metal halide.
Nothing wrong with LED and incandcescent when used for the right purposes. Incandescent is necessary for ovens for example and LED is unbeatable for torches/flashlights. Even the new Seat cars come with LED headlights which I have to admit are rather impressive.

Not seen those new seats yet vicar wonder if they will go EOLED lol I have noticed mor and more Led's going out in the shell garage lights now.
Rich the efficiency is much more on CMH and QMH and the lamp life is better colour is better it's just more likeable still not as good as Sodium based light sources though!

MV - Love the simplicity
Fluorescent - Blink blink ping!
SOX - So very British
Induction - Very simple, efficient, long life and non glare.
LED - A good all rounder and still undergoing heavy development - now available with no driver to pop.
Cosmo - Matched to good optics is very affective.

I guess there are more but thats all for now.

GAS ?!
We might come to like it again when we have the power cuts they're predicting...
Anyway my fave is T12 fluorescent, then tungsten. Everything else is interesting but only when it's obsolete - I even have LED modules which are obsolete already!

Speaking of power cuts and gas lighting, my mum was bathing my baby brother and a very young me by candlelight during a power cut in the late 70s. My dad came home and lit his camping gas lantern which gave plenty of light Just have to be careful of carbon monoxide now with modern double glazing and draught proofing

Yeah I remember in the 70s mum always having a stock of candles. I remember there was brownout shortly before the cry of "get the candles ready!" of an evening
