GEC 'Clearmain' Z8270's
Hey guys I thought I'd put up a post about the 3 GEC Clearmain Z8270 lanterns I'm getting. These lanterns are located at Mather's foundry in Newton Heath, Manchester which are privately owned and the site is over 100 years old. The site has now been abandoned and it's ear marked for demolition. I got a bit of information off the site security guard who has worked there all his life and he told me back in the early 50's Mather's foundry needed more lighting to light the private road that lead in to the yard, so they bought x12 GEC Clearmain Z8270 lanterns to do the job, but during the mid 70's they got replaced by flood lights which were 125w MBF/U which lead to the Clearmains retirement. The 125w MBF/U flood lights were all then replaced by 400w SON-T flood lights. I also forgot to mention after the retirement of the Clearmain Z8270 lanterns the foundry bought a Phosco P226 in the 80's and in the 90's a 55w SOX Philips MI36 was purchased to replace a wall mounted 125w MBF/U flood light while the P226 was installed on a Thorn QCO column. During the early 2000's majority of the retired Clearmain Z8270's we're removed and possibly scrapped . The foundry's last 3 beloved GEC Clearmain Z8270's are being removed along with the 55w SOX Phosco P226, Philips MI36 and I'll also pull the alarm equipment out along with the floods, bulkheads and there old Klaxon fire siren

I've just read this. Sounds really good. Did you manage to perform the rescues?

Those lanterns sound awesome, was a rescue operation successful? If so would any be needing a new home? I'm very interested if so.
