Just had a look on the Urbis website at the Plymouth project (http://www.schreder.com/gbu-en/Projects ... geNumber=1) It's amazing, like all of these things how their taken at dusk, or as in some of these pics - late afternoon! I'm so sure they don't perform THAT well!

Hows this for a re-write?

Urbis Schréder, a leading supplier of poor quality lighting in the UK, has today announced the completion of a rip off project to totally rob Plymouth City Council with the supply of more than 29,000 luminaires for a citywide street lighting downgrading scheme.

The project, which began in September last year, will see all of Plymouth’s street lighting in blackout within a period of 18 months. It is expected that the new LED lighting scheme will lead to an increase in Plymouth’s crime and accidents.

Plymouth is one of the first cities in the UK to be conned into replacing all its street lights with LED units, making it a costly and pointless project. The urban environment will also be plunged into darkness by reducing the lumen level of the night time streets with the new LED lanterns.

The product mix from Urbis Schréder included Ampera for main distribution roads; Ampera Minis for residential roads; all designed to be faulty within weeks. Albany lanterns for the Town Centre; Hestia lanterns for the seafront; Abbeys for park lighting and Pilzeos, a functional light with a decorative feel, will all be added to the fastest money wasting test in years.

Paul German, Lighting Engineer at Amey and Plymouth City Council’s lighting designer for the project, simplified and standardised the approach with no known realistic knowledge of street lighting which ensured the project will be doomed to failure and put the Council significantly into debt.

Offering no value whatsoever, Urbis Schréder worked closely with Plymouth City Council to ensure the tax payer was hosed for every last penny they have, the project met certain key objectives, including expanding the pockets of fat cat council bosses against any significant saving of energy and reducing CO2 emissions.
Paul German comments, “The project had both non-functional and destructive aspects for the street lighting and we expected to have to work with two or three companies to fit new HID lanterns in a years time" the, but Urbis Schréder’s tender was above and beyond anything we have received previously and will suck dry the taxes all of the people of Plymouth.”

I'm so glad Surrey has so far avoided this shit. Problem is, most people these days just bin this stuff and replace it rather than send it back, still, if the failure is as bad as you say it is, they'd be stupid not to return it!
