Philips in general I think were the best although I perfer the thorn etch Philips tubes are just quality they did the big hours, french Dutch GB Philips just went on and on!

philips was my first vote of the best, thorn/atlas are nice but can ring off randomly which is annoying. not sure if this was fixed on the later enfield ge tubes?

I believe the Alto ones are crap - take ages to warm up, don't like the cold and not very bright, but historically, you look at the tubes made at the Hamilton plant in the UK, those routinely did well over 10 yrs in daily service. They just refused to die. In my opinion, the best fluorescents ever made!
