Forgive Me!

Forgive me for I have sinned - I have just picked up 50 KSR Lighting 5' 39w LED batten fittings to replace 5' Pop-Packs, Cryselco 5' battens and Cryselco 5' weatherpacks in a warehouse.

The existing battens have all been badly converted to run illegal Chinese LED tubes (which are now dropping like flies) and as I'd have to rewire them anyway, as currently with live to one lampholder and neutral to the other, they are non-compliant, I figured in this instance I'd just replace them with LED battens as it will be quicker. The plus side being, I'll uplift all the old battens, rewire them in the workshop and return them to fluorescent again, for use elsewhere. There was no point in doing this where they are, because due to their ISO: 14001 certification, they will only allow me to install LED.

Remains to be seen how good the KSR battens are of course.....

I am not aware of any ISO standard that even names "LED" in it. It's mostly standards about writing corporate paperwork to specify vague and ambigous obligations of "improvement" that dont really go anywhere anyway

I think it's more about environmental impact and energy efficiency in general. When they had their inspection for the above standard, LED lighting was one of the things the inspector checked. They have to show they are reducing their energy consumption - a fact I find laughable as the other thing I've done there recently is to install a load of car charging points - go figure!

Good call! lol

At the end of the day, I do what the customer asks. I can advise them, but if they decide to ignore my advice and go their ow way, well, that's their call. If I don't respect that, I just lose my customers and someone else goes in and does it anyway. In this case, seemed little point in rewiring the old fluorescents to run legal LED tubes, rather then the illeagl Chinese ones there atm ( the ones that tend to have a 100v + touch voltage to the metal case) as it will be quicker to just replace them with LED battens. I can then at least rewire the fittings with ballasts and starters again to run fluorescent and the weatherpacks I remove will; be much more use elsewhere!

Are these the ones you've mentioned before where they use forklifts in close proximity, that you advised them about previously for the voltage to the tube bodies

Those are the ones, yes. Thankfully, they are dropping like flies now, which is good!

Not too bad as if a customer has some nice fluorescent fittings, at least you can save them and put up a load of JCC LED Battens. I guess it's their loss...

I think its the best choice you can make in this case. Still nuts that "LED specialists" seem to be completely exempt from any reasonable common sense, electrical code, and other requirements....
