Well to be fair, the lights pictured would normally be halogen... so replacing 20w capsule or MR11 halogens with 1 or 2W LED is a big saving...

That would apply about right to GLS lighting, provided its lifetime and light output. (Anyone still uses that ?). It is not worded to suggest that it applies specifically to Incandescents tho. Back when a LED company came to rid our town of SON (mostly), they claimed the same "80% energy savings" vs traditional lighting

I guess it wouldn't sound as good if they compared LED to actual fluorescent specs. For example a standard 40W LED panel with up to 40k hours lifetime (supposedly). Then compare that to a 4 x 14w T5 Thorlux fitting where the original 2004 Philips tubes were still working after around 14 years of use. Or another fitting.. a 2 x 8w sign light from 9/78 that's still working after 24/7 use since around then.
