Philips S10 starter that pops during use

Postby Flurofan96 » Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:39 pm

Recently got a Crompton 58W fixture that came with a Philips S10 starter. For some odd reason that starter makes a very loud distorted popping noise and is unable to strike the 58W tube. I confirmed that the fixture was all good by using an Arlen Pulsestarter

I tried the Philips S10 starter on the Homebase 36W fixture and the loud popping noise still persists but is able to strike the 36W tube successfully. It is the first time I come across such starter that exhibits such action

That'll be the capacitor in the starter failing.

Thanks :) :D :) :fluor:

I'll keep it out of use then but keep it in my collection because it has this mascot cartoon on it. I bought some bunch of starters from Amazon (4x Sylvania FS-11 and 2x Philips S10s) unfortunately the mascot isn't on these new S10s and they are made in Poland and the same for the Sylvania FS-11s :fluor: :fluor: ;cool

pop it open and cut the capacitor out, leaving just the glow bottle....

I shall do that since it is a old-ish version especially with the mascot on it
