One day, almost certainly. As to what tho, that we'll have to wait and see...

This is a good question?, to be honest we’re now onto micro electronics in diode form, and for the near future I really don’t know if anything is out there better than the PN junction for creating light?
From heating wire to the electric arc, previous light sources followed a similar pattern, but with LED we really are into space age technology almost!, and now the manufacture of micro diodes on a tiny filament strip is mainstream it’s going to be decades until something, (if anything), is invented to beat it?

The only current competitor to LEDs I can think of is lasers if that counts. Some car headlights have a blue laser which shines into phosphor to create the white light. Maybe in the future that technology will get better or be used in more general lighting.

It’s frightening that prior to 2010, we were all in awe of HID lamps with their efficiency and light output, but within 12 short years I now look at all discharge lamps and see what actual dinosaurs they have now become!
The instantaneous output of light on switch on, and the gargantuan reduction in electricity consumption and heat output of LED has really woken me up, (for one), to what a huge step forward the diode based lighting system is to all its predecessors! ;what

LASER pumped phosphor lamps?
