The Return of MAZDA

Postby Slyspark » Tue Jan 28, 2025 9:18 pm

Seems the MAZDA name has returned - this time offering LED fittings. A delve a bit deeper, reveals this is what Signify (formerly Philips) now seem to be branding their products with. I guess 'Signify' wasn't working for them (as I doubt many people have ever heard of them) so they've dredged up a once quality name from the past....

When I see or here "Signify" I always at first think that it's a new rebrand of HP/Agilent/Keysight ect :D
At least LEDvance lets you know at least that it is something to do with lighting lol.

To be honest I think it is strange that Signify does not use that name more often, especially in France. Philips used to brand their lamps for the French market Mazda after they acquired the same called french manufacturer. So In France the Philips SON become the Mazda MACS for example. At least in France that name should still be remembered as it was only nuked in the 2000s.
Actually there was also a British export version called Iris with the same logo.

While it may be a new name it could slowly be introduced like LEDVANCE. Getting rid of the Philips brand at signify and the Osram brand in LEDVAnCE´s case, would bring the cost cutting that no royalties need to be paid to either Osram or Philips for the use of the Name.
