90's GE Lucalox Loosing Vacuum

Postby Beta 5 » Sat Jun 14, 2025 6:03 pm

Anyone else had this? A few times now I have come across NOS 1990's Hungarian GE Lucalox SON lamps where the getters have turned white indicating contamination in the outer bulb but with no obvious cause or damage.
Some of them seemed to run up normally and get to full brightness so may have been only slight contaminated enough to whiten the getter, though I've seen it in several different sizes of them too.

Hmm perhaps they were just some unlucky ones, I haven't seen it on any other brand yet, though have had some Philips PIA's with vacuum loss but that is apparently likely to be a factory defect rather than having happened over a long storage period.
They must have left the factory with fully intact getters so I guess something has happened since they were produced :?
