Why don't they make big neon indicator lamps anymore?

Likely because technology improved, neon indicator lamps got smaller until ultimately LED took over anyway. Not all progress is an improvement.
Some of those big decorative neon lamps are still available on places like eBay, but they're usually just decorative and Chinese made
