Some interesting looking decorative LED filament lamps Crompton have come out with now!

I like the DECO ones, but I still don't understand why, if you're going to use that much glass in an LED lamp, surely they can make a version bigger than 4 and a half bloody watts!
A 2000 lumen version for instance would look nice in those fancy 'smoked' shapes for kitchens and stuff!
I'd definitely use these around the house, but 4.5 watts in each area just doesn't cut it!

Yeah I quite like those too, but yes a slightly higher wattage would be useful, they could always make them dimmable to achieve a lower output anyway!

Those are intended primarily for low hanging sockets and stuff like that (think in a bar etc). Anything more than 4W there would be too glary

I agree that there are other use cases where it would make sense, just not what the designers had in mind

Dimmable lamps are often inferior to the non dimmable counterparts, so no just making them dimmable is not the answer. There would still be need in a few power ratings of non dimmable lamps

It's like the ones in the 1000 watt GLS bodies for example, they could cram them with that many LED filaments that it would ACTUALLY resemble an old time 1kW GLS, that could then be used in a restored shovel flood for instance!
But they waste the space with the exact same thing you can get in a candle version!

You can cram only so much ballast in the cap... 15W is really pushing it

Yeah unfortunately unless you remote ballasted it you'd never get enough driver circuitry in an E40 base to match the output of a 1000W GLS, that said something drastically lower than the output of a 1kW lamp would still be ample in certain situations so it my be doable on a smaller scale?

I wonder if the driver's components could be arranged around the stem somehow?, rather than trying to put it inside the cap? Or would the gas cooling not be able to handle this and the filament strips?
