Right, so having just replaced Surrey's entire stock of streetlights (finished 2 yrs ago) The council now want to turn them off to save money. Given that replacements such as new 55w PL-L to replace 35w SOX and 140w Cosmo / 100w SON to replace 90w SOX were he norm, they now wonder why it's costing them more to run. F***ing idiots!

Not going to be that easy sadly. the system they installed is run on the 'Harvard Leafnuts' system. I guess that to turn them off at 11 and back on at 5, they'll just send a remote signal, so nothing I can do short of hacking it and I wouldn't have a clue how to do that anyway :(

No, the node they use is internal to the lantern with a small antenna sticking through a 20mm hole in the top. I think you can buy something called a 'node sniffer' which the engineers use to locally turn one on after repair. That could be fun, go round switching them on when I wanted, but I bet it's a shit load of money!

You can`t win anyway, they would just put it on your council tax!

Move to Cumbria. The street lights come on at dusk, go off at dawn and do nothing else between.

And I'm guessing that it's also a bit quieter and a whe lot prettier there as well! My little town is fast turning into a suburb of London :(

Just stay clear of Cleator Moor and you can't really go wrong.

Cleator Moor? Whats wrong with there then? Hmmm, thinking it's time to move, can't even have bedroom windows open at night as my road is now like a motorway. When I was little, you could play in the street, now it's hard to even cross it!
