I think it's a good idea, especially if there has been a serious road collision say on a Motorway, Major Dual Carriageway, they then can inform approaching Traffic to 1 slow down, 2 clear a lane for emergency vehicles, and 3 to be prepared to leave the Motorway, this could also be used all roads too to inform drivers to make way for emergency vehicles,

Yep on Motorways but NO gantries are on Dual Carriageways/Arterial routes.

It's certainly different, however, people seem to completely disregard the flashing crosses on the gantries, so can't see them taking much notice of this either. I got stuck on the M27 a few months back for nearly 4 hrs as there was a serious accident literally 4 cars in front of me where a couple of ppl in a car were killed. Loads of ppl pulled onto the hard shoulder and the emergency services couldn't even use that to get to the accident.
Bad choices make good stories!

Flashing reds blues etc should be left to on the vehicles only.. same for flashing ambers should be left for recovery only.. not motorway work vans..

This is not sophisticated at all, look at the video closely, their just red flashing Xenon lamps bolted on top of the lantern canopy, (like a photocell), you can do this with ANY type of street lighting! ;confused
