LED wattages??

Ok I am ashamed to be wrighting this....But today due to a customers spec I had to install a NVC LED batten in a roof space.... Now said LED batten was in a box that clearly states it was 40W? However said LED batten had a osram optitronic driver? There were 3 settings on the driver 41 56 and 64W the driver was set in the 64W position from standard? So is this a con? Are NVC over running the fittings so you install them think these are nice and bright and buy more??

Ive seen it all too much, and they overdrive the leds and they cook

We get these NVC LED battens a work, very rare I've seen one where the correct link had been fitted on the driver for the wattage!

Either the manufacturers are clueless or they are on purposely over driving them

Its hard to tell with diodes, as no-one but the Chinese know what their individual spec is, you can run a 60watt GLS at 300 volts, and say the same, "wow, look how bright that is for just 60watt"?, but as we know its a 240 volt rated lamp we can tell it won`t last as long!, you can`t tell with LED diodes though?

Without taking the fitting apart and looking at googling the diode you can only guess. This may help finding the spec of the LEDs https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/thre ... ecs.41325/ do some basic maths and you'll find out what the driver should be supplying. However most "Made in China" stuff butt together the closest combination of an off the shelf driver and an LED array.
