atlas kolor-rite 65/80w [EOL]

A recent acquisition, this atlas Kolor-rite 5' 65/80w. Sadly, despite appearing to have not had much use it is eol. One cathode was open, linked it out but the other one just smoked out after glowing orange, it must have lost vacuum. Its now looking rather sad in my scrap tube pile!

These are awful tubes. I got given 8 of them in 2012 all of them worked. I tested them a year later and 7 of them had lost vacuum. Exact same tubes as this one. And im now down to just one and that one is not excellent either it keeps going contaminated

Interesting, I wonder where the air's getting in? i'd guess dodgy lead wires

Yes me too. Shame really, they are lovely tubes otherwise but if i lose my last one of them i wont be after more sadly

Is it just me or are Atlas/Thorn/BLI tubes generally less reliable than others? If I have a pile of tubes to test I always check them first and expect the worst! I almost don't even bother checking Philips as I just know they'll be fine lol

I think they certainly were the worst out of anything gb made. They seemed to nip this issue in the bud when thorn changed to GB GE though so i think they improved them. Some say this is due to age but you dont get it with most BCs , philips, old sylvania, endura etc but it was not unheard of in osram / gec/ ascot tubes ive had a fair amount of them do it. But never one ring off, only lose vac or go contaminated
