Troughton and Young twin 80w conversion, lit
Last October, I saved 6 of these Troughton and Young fluorescent fittings, complete with original starters and the Mazda Natural tubes. Out of the 6 fittings, one was missing a lampholder and black end bracket, the remaining lamp holder also being damaged. I was going to keep the remains as spares until a fellow collector came up with what would have been the original twin tube lamp holder arrangement, so immediately got to converting one of the 5 remaining fittings to twin tube, the results being what you see here. To see this fitting working completely untouched and original is a rare sight to see these days. I'd like to say all 5 fittings are still on their original tubes but annoyingly one of them decided to ring off.

After the tedious rewire work, it was time to light it for the first time, and what better than to light it with two of the original tubes, As expected, the fitting fired up first time and ran very quietly, suggesting its only got a few hundred hours use in all the years its been installed. Next step now will be to restore the fitting and bring out its immaculate originality.

Very smart looking twin fitting. Worth the effort putting it together.

Its well worth utilising this old stuff and repurposing where you can, in this case its been a conversion thats still kept the originality, which was key since they had never been touched during their time in service. Beat that LED.
