Thorn Gamma 6 18w SOX: 3y, 8m, 21d
The 18w Osram SOX lamp in the Gamma 6 on my patio has now completed 3 years, 8 months and 21 days service.
I noticed it had a slight intermittent flicker the other night when it first powered on and warmed up but it seems fine now.
Decided to have a look today and see how its going.

The blackening around the electrodes that was on the lamp from new disappeared after a year or so and was replaced with that white staining and splatter that you can still see but the blackening has now returned around the electrodes and there are also black spots at the bottom of the lamp around the U bend.
The section of arc tube in and around the U bend section Is also starting to suffer some slight blackening.

Quite a difference to the 3 year pic!

This isn't coming out until it's dead so I wonder how much longer it has lol.

Oh yes that’s looking a lot more hammered now. I think it’s got another 6 months to a year left in it. It’ll be looking good after this winter gets a lot more hours on it . Mine has been in nearly 2 years now…update mine is dead as of ages ago lol

Would be interesting to see. I used 4 core cable in this which sends a switched live from the photocell back down the column, when the next lamp goes in I’m going to add an hour meter in the junction box at the bottom. I really should have done it with this tbh!

I saw this start and run up this evening but when I looked out just now it was dark. Gonna have a look, good job I have that 150w halide flood on the side of the house lol.

Yep it’s dead. The discharge tube has leaked.
