GE M250R2 200w SON: Internals Showing the gear of this US lantern. Has a honking great autotransformer type ballast and is designed for 480v 60hz supply voltage. That glass prismatic blow is almost half the weight of the lantern and I'll show a closer pic of it. The high supply voltage doesn't matter as I'll be replacing all the gear with either 150w or 250w European SON gear. Probably the only thing that will get retained is the 280v 25uf capacitor! This is NOS from 2004.

I wonder why they chose to put the lamp the other way around?

Most european lanterns like WRTL Arcs and Urbis Sapphire's have it that way too.

Yeah postage was a fair bit but meh, live a little lol. I've striped the gear out and rigged it to use my collection of external gearboxes. I'm running a Philips 150w SON-T in it and the optics are very nice, it directs the light into a very nice beam and there is practically no glare when you look at it off-axis.

The reflector is inverting optically i.e. the closer the lamp arctube to the gear, the wider angle towards the road the light is thrown out. Positioning the lamp like that means max throw angle without taking up space from the gear compartment by recessing the socket too far back

Interesting lantern esp 200W SON? Depends on the state phil some have gone LED some haven’t
