Sugg "Littleton" gas lantern
|
Picked this up as an interesting little restoration project.
This Sugg gas lantern was used in the waiting room of Hindley railway station near Wigan in the early 1930's.
Has been knocking round in somebodies garage since it was removed and is it in quite poor condition but amazingly spares, such as burners and a brand new glass bowl has already been sourced from William Sugg & Co who are still in business today!
The valve is seized but I'm sure with a bit of heat I can free it all up and get it working, or at least cosmetically presentable.
If worse comes to worse, a 160w ML could be used....

The tin canopy will be cleaned and left alone apart from some rust paint. The two main bits of rust on the rim of the canopy are in line where the chain would hang and has probably been caused by people turning it on and off with the chain hitting it!
Quite a lot of the screws were seized totally rock solid but soon gave in after I gave them a really good go with a MAP torch, they screwed right out!
