WRTL 2000 gear
The first thing that struck me was the control gear. Its a 36w PL-L lantern, and its switch start. Apart from replacing the wires to the replacement ballast, thats all that was required here.

Wonder if they have been stared up?

Looks like a Philips SOX choke! Cool

Its a proper 36/40w fluorescent choke. I would've though 35w SOX would slightly under run it?

So both chokes had failed? That's bloody bizarre! We used to use this exact set up in county hall with their "listed 500x500mm suspended ceiling grid" all were specially made Fitzgerald fittings thousands of them none had ever failed!

Apparently so. The ballast here is dated 2000 and the lantern dates to 1996.
