Esla one way
|
During Esla's time in manufacture, some extremely unusual designs came about, largely from the SO and MB lamps that were coming out in the 30's, however by far the weirdest looking of them all is this Esla one way, a design so rare its not even mentioned in the catalogue. It was offered to me by another collector, of course I accepted.
Focused in for 200w GLS lamps, the lantern arrived in a very clean and good condition. As is usual, some of the glass is smashed, meaning part of the restoration will see these pieces removed and replaced for new. Chipping back some of the paint revealed the writing, which unusually is just stamped into the metal rather than cast in on the usual raised sections. Its unusual design is offset by how it looks when its lit, and this thing is absolutely beautiful when its lit. To take the words off another collector, its like an 'electric Peacock' which really does describe it well. Light distribution is phenomenally well controlled, the main beam being very evident, and extremely effective.
Its original colour appears to be black, but in this case, I will go for a more traditional green colour, as that colour seems to suit these the best.
