Sylvania 50w DLX Hard Glass Halogen Capsule: Clear

1 x Sylvania 50w DLX double-jacketed tungsten halogen lamp with an aluminosilicate hard glass capsule instead of the more usual quartz which is quite unusual for a European lamp.

The advantages of a hard glass capsule is that it is cheaper and easier to work with as it's melting point is a lot lower than quartz.

The disadvantages are that they can blowup quite energetically when they reach end of life which has to be taken into account.
In this case protection is provided in the form of a very impressively thick and heavy outer envelope which is quite something when you have the lamp in your hand!
In fact the outer envelope was made by a Belgian manufacturer of perfume bottles and you can really see the lineage!
