Philips 50w HPL 4

Two new Philips 50w MBF/U lamps in colour 642.

The "4" refers to the recommended service lifetime of four years (for group relamping) in public lighting applications.

It seems that they have focused mainly on reducing early lamp failures as they claim figures of:
12,000 hours to 5% failures, 20,000 hours to 20% failures and 24,000 hours to 50% failures.
A standard 50w HPL-N is only rated at 16,000 hours to 50% failures!

I got a load from Anylamp.com a while ago in 50, 80 and 125w flavour.

I would LOVE to do an experiment with some of these next to some classic old 70s or 80s British mercs and see what lasts better!

Yeah, AnyLamp have stopped doing the 50s now, they only have 80 and 125s
