Forest City Manchester sign light
This is a restored 2 x 8 watt road sign light. This seems to date from 1987. The ballasts are Tridonic. The lantern is seen here in a restored state. It did have a fuse for each tube circuit but these had become brittle following several decades of UV from the tubes so have not been reinstalled to the gear tray.

Ah as my days spent as a kid I was obsessed with these things I used to love them! Plenty happy memories brought back to me just looking at this! I've only got the plastic versions now. I used to see loads on the floor all the time and used to chore them

My first mains gear was from what looked to be a mid 70s sign light with S&B ballasts. I was 9 at the time and found it on the ground when out with a mate who was also a lighting collector, so sign lights have a special place in my heart too!

Awsome we always used to have the RSF type down here I think we all need to start getting more of these as they are going to go very quickly now both in PL-S and T5 they will all be ripped out and changed for led!

We still have one or two of these dotted around.

Most of the sign lights near here have been converted to LED now, a few have failed after a few years with flashing LEDs.

These came supplied with SB PGSU starters btw Wink there's loads of these fittings in Durham and Sunderland. I want one now. Dunno what happened to my other ones I used to have though

I'm a bit low on older starters, this came with some very yellowed GE starters and almost EOL Sylvania tubes. The lumen's output had deprecated really badly.
