Carrol & Meynell CMV15E-1 3.6KVA Variac
15 amp variable AC transformer.
Made in the UK by Carrol & Meynell Transformers LTD.
0-270v for 240v input. My input voltage is a bit higher so I see up to nearly 280v.
Wired with 2.5mm cable and fitted with a 20 amp circuit breaker on the output.

Although only rated for 15 amps it seems to cope with a bit of overload quite well for short periods of time and only really complains when pulling 30 amps.

When something pisses you off, you can crank it up 'till it pops :)

Also handy for playing with a couple of 240-110v trannies wired in reverse to get a controllable 0-500v+ output :)

That would be handy for running 415V lamps!

Would the gear still work ok with 415-0v instead of 240-240v?

Considering that a 2000W Metal halide ballast is still a Choke I cant see why not? i know thorn used to offer a 240V-415V autotransformer specify for running 400V HID lamps and gear on 240V
