Thorn Gamma 6: 35w SOX to 50/70w SON/MBI
|
Bought this 35w SOX Thorn Gamma 6 from eBay for the simple reason that It had the "sombrero" wide canopy which I always think looks best on the Gamma 6 and I wanted one for the Gamma 6 that I have installed on my patio.
Johnny M provided me with a refraction ring assembly for when I ran a 35w CDM-T in my patio G6 but when I converted it to run 18w SOX it was no longer needed.
I thought I might as well use it in this lantern so it was duly fitted and the 35w SOX gear removed and replaced with a Magnetek 50/70w SON/MBI choke and a Tridonic 35-70w ignitor.
It's interesting to note the subtle differences between the two Gamma 6's that I now have.
The one on the patio has a 20mm hole in the bottom for the cable entry, there are various mounting holes on the base of the lantern for various ballasts and the lip that bowl sits in protrudes from the main body with a sharp right-angle.
This one has only two mounting holes in the base to which a vertical plate is bolted to and the ballast is fixed to that.
There is a very large diameter hole in the bottom of this lantern which means the entire lantern is open to the inside of the column that it is mounted on and the flange that the canopy sits on is smoothed flush to the main body of the lantern.
