External electrode fluorescent lamps
I made these recently, they are electrodeless. One contains mercury and both contain Neon. Im hoping to make a full range of colours in this exact length so I can make a modular fitting for them so they can be changed whenever.

Awesome. But how are you making lamps Shocked did you buy out the gear from a closed neon shop or something?? (I actually once saw that type of thing for sale here locally)

What sort of gear do these run on if they're electrodeless ?

@ FrontSideBus :
I've thought about how cool a digital clock would be to do that with standard fluorescents!

Its essentially nothing more than a vacuum pump, and a system designed for pneumatic cylinders etc. The hose doesnt leak or outgas so its ok but not ideal.

@XmasLightsGuy
If only such a thing happened here. finding neon equipment in the UK is near impossible which is why its such a lash up.

@eclipsislamps: still a pretty cool setup since you can make your own lamps Cool

I'm sure whoever ended up buying that stuff got a pretty good score!
I have no idea how hard finding neon equipment (or neon-sign shops) is here - I know where one shop is that's not all too far from me.
I've heard the majority of the US neon neon-sign shops/manufacturers/etc are in Las Vegas though...which probably makes sense because:
Apparently they have a law there that requires signs have a certain percentage of neon!
And they also have some sorta neon history museum there too!!
