Thorlux 2 x 40w conversion. One of the Thorlux twin fittings converted to 2 x 40w 2ft. When I saw that these fittings were available I knew that I had to get one to carry out this conversion, they're ideal for this! The ballast is too wide for any of the other twin 2ft fittings I have! The Philips ballast was originally part of a street light gear tray and would have been used with a quick start transformer which disappeared decades ago. Tonight is the first time that this ballast has been used with 40w tubes since the late 1980s.

This is perfect this ballast fits snug in here! You should get this in regular use rob!

Yeah that's the problem Kev, I have loads of fittings I would love to install but not enough suitable places. This is of course really bright and would make a great portable work light.

kev i plan on using mine with the electronic ballast for the time being.. how long (or short) a lifespan do these ballast's have?

Na these are ok actually normally but have about as much character as a damp rag

yeah i appreciate that.. eventually it will get converted to 2x40w with a 80w merc ballast once i find some starter motor holders Cool

TBH, they feel so heavy when delivered for the size, you could almost think they were fitted with magnetic ballasts.
