Should I just take this new tube straight to the recyclig bin!? Yuck. "Crompton" Spectre Plus 58w 865 T8 tube. Terrible tube in an even more terrible colour temperature. I believe these are Chinese generics the same as Fusion and Edison? I've had these fitted for a few days in the garage to give them a chance, but the blue light produced is just awful. I remember reading somewhere that blue light is less useful to human eyesight compared to yellow light, and it would appear so. Being triphosphor, T8 and a higher colour temperature these should be quite a bit brighter than the 535 T12 tubes I normally use but the light produced just seems really dull and makes everything seem darker. I can't comment on longevity, perhaps they would last well, I'm not putting these 865's into long term use. I did get 3 of these Crompton tubes, one in 835 which could have gone into long term test but that one ringed-off from new! I'd bin that. I don't touch CRAPton tubes, they really are a pile of shite these days, no 2 tubes are the same colour as eachother, light output is awful and they don't last long at all. I got given a load by someone a while back and I just dumped them in the lamp bin. Utter crap!

I quite like this colour myself. Can't see this being of particularly good quality but should do 6 to 7 thousand hours on a pulsestarter. Lee would know if this was from one of the better factories or not.

Id probably use them somewhere where theyre not going to get a awful lot of use so they can last a bit longer than they would if they were in a shop. Instead of banning halophosphate tubes they should of banned anything over 5000K as well as theyre a horrible colour i think

One of the issues with high CCT lamps is that for comfortable lighting levels the higher the colour temperature the greater the lux level needs to be. You ideally want the lux levels to remain within the boundaries of the Kruithof (spelling?) graph. From memory the jump in required lux levels from 2700K to 6500K is quite dramatic.

I have a box of these at work, but in 535, their not too bad for general office use, the last one I fitted was in the yard control office, where they list all the cars on the data base.

If they're 535 they will be older ones I would think which might be better quality, do they have the same end cap? I think these were made 12/2016 (could be wrong). I got an 835 with this lot and the dam thing had ringed off, right out the box, brand new Confused

These date back to 12/2014. Prefer 827 and 835 to 865. Daylight seems to have become more popular than white in shops, evident from the use of that colour in luminaires that do not contain fluorescent tubes!
