Been working on my dads house over the weekend, he's been letting it out for 10 years and now coming back to live in it. This was a fitting i installed back in 1996 when it was built along with other vintage fittings. Some idiot had broke one of its original osram 125 watt tubes which i bought new from the wholesalers in 1991 ! it didnt work on its one remaining tube either as someone had stuck a cheap china made 5 foot tube starter in it. Mong ! got it going again now, fitted a atlas 125 watt in the missing side, the starters are electronic, not one ive seen before, you get a good loud buzz on start up. had to use a pulce starter on the missing side

Amazing to think this now classic design is around 45 yrs old. These just last, so long as you're prepared to occasionally change the series capacitor. Find me a modern pop-pack (or any other fitting, bar a few) that will still be in service in another 45 yrs!

Ah the old PPs (these gray sided) and white sided up til about 1975 used the Bosch capacitors that didn't go wrong! If you see the video I made of a shit load of 8' I had to rip out despite 40 years work they all had all original gear!

These grey siders have it on the quality stakes though, they are better made than the white siders.
