Dead Diall 23w CFL
Looking and smelling a bit crusty! This makes a high pitched squealing noise and still draws about 0.3w even though it doesn't light. It's done about 23 months of dusk to dawn in a floodlight on my house, I reckon that's about 7,000 hours? Not great really considering it's supposed to do 10,000. Still it was £2 in the bargain bin at B&Q! This has now been replaced with a used GE 20w rescued from a skip, I wonder if that'll last longer lol!?

Needs converting to 70w SON or 18w SOX lol

This was 70w SON lol! The lux & running cost levels were unnecessary for this particular application!

Whack a choke & PL-C lamp in there?
fluorescent   [18 May, 2017 at 10:27 PM]
I think that'll be the long term solution. I have all the required bits to convert to 18 or 26w pl-c too

50W SON would be cool! Cost would be roughly £26.50 to run a 50W SON per year based on 4000 Hrs per year!

This is where CFL WOULD work, if not for them cooking themselves when sealed in!

It shouldn't get too hot in there i wouldn't think. It's quite a large enclosure and only runs at night when it's cooler... on an unrelated note, the GE is already dead lol! Well cycling anyway.

Does anybody else love the "hot" smell that you get from opening old floodlights and lanterns that have done serious time?
Andy   [29 Jan, 2018 at 11:58 AM]
Yes, I do like to sniff lanterns and electrical components that have done many years service! Laughing

Plc would be nice! And yes all those fried wasps? Wink

Shame, for all they're from B&Q so far all Diall lamps I've had here have lasted well. Have one similar to this in a bulkhead out back which must have more than 40K hours on it now and it's still going.

This one seemed to be a 'one off', as other Diall lamps I have including another 23w CFL identical to this one are still going strong.

My Diall flower lamp is still going strong too.

I think this floodlight was originally for 70W SON-E/I lamps, and the gear has been removed and a CFL was put in.
