Rusty Revo 80w Bayonet Cap Fixture

Here you see a rusty Revo 5-foot bayonet cap fixture. This was bought (rescued!) from an 'upcycler' lady who said that, if it didn't sell, she would have used it as a planter!

This is going to stay just the way it is for now, no paint. I've serviced it, rewired it and replaced the dead 4-pin starter and socket with a 2-pin. It's now fitted above my work bench & will be used regularly.

I've taken out the vintage Cryselco Daylight tube that it came with and fitted a BNOS (1974) Philips 80w White, which I have plenty of.

Great find, glad she didn't get to upcycle it, some of these upcycled items are just plain weird and people pay silly money for them

I would love to know exactly how old this is. Haven't found anything definitive to tell me.

I see. Â£30 is not too bad considering it works. Some people are now asking silly money for old stuff like this!

Yeah I thought that was a reasonable price, also I collected it on the way home from an event so fuel cost was minimal.

I could probably weld some gears onto this, or an old pressure gauge or some crap and sell it as 'steampunk' for Â£795 lol

thats a nice find!, since you have put it into use, I would be tempted to clean up paint the reflector surface to get the maximum light output from the fixture/tube, and then keep the rest untouched Smile

I have a trough reflector super slim, that is nicely patinated as they say, but it is pretty clear that the patination on the reflector surface does reduce the output of the fixture a fair bit, so i'd like to get just that cleaned up at some point, and then leave the rest to wear its history Smile

You could also coat the rest of it in clear lacquer to keep its patina, but prevent it rusting away if it's anywhere damp Cool

Coating rust with anything will make it rust faster and with the deep penetrating sort of rust, rather than surface rust. And it will change the appearance - Nothing can be done about it

If the current appearance suits then just leave it as is, inside and outside (and accept that it will give an 1/3rd less light, which is not that bad tbh). If not subjected to the elements it won't continue rusting in any noticable way

, imagine if you could go back in time when the first one of these came off the factory floor, with a T5 batten with HF gear, what would they think of it?

I've often wondered the same thing Rich, imagine what they'd think of a modern dimmable HF T5 emergency fitting or weatherpack etc, with all the components being so lightweight and slim!
