28w Edison 2D lamp after running at circa 80w

This was still running when powered down due to it stinking the place out with burning plastic smell.

It was powered on an American Philips Advance electronic ballast that was driving it at around 80 watts! Safe to say it was pretty bright, albeit stinky!

Have you noticed on the newer ones the cathodes are getting lower and lower in the plastic bit?

Yes... I've noticed

Nice. that ballast can almost run Just a about anything. look like it ran in Overdrive too by combining both outputs on one cathodes. This ballast runs our American 8 footer doing this overdrive set up i will run a 100 or 125 watt
tubes ok. I revive my GEC 80 watt fluorescent tube that fail to start in my light pack. where ever this ballast went to. It suppose to go to Danny to light His American F72T12 single pin slimeline lamps.

Advance now makes HO output sign ballast like this with 800 Ma drive current per lamp. since they banned magnetic Sign ballast. plus it make things bit easer on my last sign job as wireing for HO magnetic was bit fucked and cant reach to of sign to rewire and replace lamp holders. those HF ballast work nicely coverting them over. it also when it only time the magnetic gear sucks. getting 7 to 9 months on a philip lamps going pink and dim. the same batch of lamp lasted much longer on Switch starts Smile

Dangerous piece of shit having the cathodes s low in the plastic, that's a reason i won't have 2D on a life test in fear of the house burning down...

To be fair, this was being SERIOUSLY over-driven to get it that hot!

It could have been even higher than 80w actually as I think when I first tested power consumption it only had one of the blue wires attached (connecting the second gives a higher output current)
