Simplex Aries
|
The Simplex Aries was a lantern substantially different to all the other lanterns Simplex offered. Boxy shapes and straight lines were replaced with a sleek and smooth wedge shape canopy. Being made of GRP, and also being gearless, the lantern weighs just a few kilograms.
Removed from the Wombourne area recently, it arrived in the collection in an extremely tidy condition, the bowl having minimal yellowing to it, a very rare feat with these, as they yellow something terrible. As is typical however, the internals are just as grubby as the exterior, however having constant heat over the years has prevented this from becoming ingrained.
Once home, I decided to scrub the inside of the canopy with nothing but furniture polish, the results came out incredible. The bowl also received a good scrub with Brasso, not only clearing it up, but removing a fair bit of yelllowing too. all thats needed now is a repaint externally and this can then be put into the collection.
