About To Be Downgraded...
A SON/HPS streetlight just about to be removed and replaced with a LED thing.
There seems to suddenly be allot of this going on

Image quality isn't great due to sun glare, and being taken through a car window.

You should of gone and scavaged the old lantern!!!!

@Kev:
It went right into the back of a truck.
I woulda felt way to weird/uncomfortable to go ask if I coulda had one.
If it wasn't for that my timing was perfect. Sad to see the old SON lanterns go Crying or Very sad but atleast the LED things they used are decent looking.

When I found some replacements in progress in Scotland I just walked up to one of the engineers and asked them. Sure enough I got one.

This kind of thing was unheard of a few years ago, but some engineers seem all too happy to help now!

I always thought it would be the other way round now. With all the recycling, 'hazardous substances' disposal, health and safety etc...

@HIDLamp:
Cool that they let you have one!

@AngryHorse:
Yep. Seems it was last year when I started seeing a fair number of LEDs showing up. Then it really picked up this year.

@HIDLamp:
I would assume they atleast recycle the metal lanterns. (and probably the lamps would be considered toxic/hazardous? so would require proper disposal)

No matter what its a total waste of working lights, and taxpayer money.
