I've always loved pic's of dark storm clouds like that. (and ofcourse watching a good thunderstorm too!)
The one in this pic was a pretty good storm..caused some flooding in the area it hit - I remember seeing it on the news that evening when I got home from the walk I was on.
@Kev:
This on is probably MH, but I didn't see it lit, so could be SON as well
-----
I had to go google a pic of a Thorn Joanna to see it
You will be just on the edge of tornado alley living in Colorado will you?, quite lucky, but I bet you guys still have some bad storms out there?
I think I once YouTube'd a storm vid LOL
Most common thing here is those quick little storms...some lightning/thunder, rains just enough to get everything wet (not even enough to water the lawn, just get it wet), then its done.
Yep, the eastern part of Colorado would be edge of tornado alley. I'm right near the mountains so very little chance of tornadoes here.
Not allot, but I have seen some pretty big storms (probably supercells) Some with lots of lighting really heavy rain, & strong wind, also seen a couple with hail bad enough that you back away from the windows!)
Have even heard the tornado sirens go off a couple times. Kinda remember once many years ago seeing a small funnel cloud.
One time I saw 2 pretty good thunderstorms merge into one (wouldn't say supercell lebel, just big storms with lots of lightning & rain)...happened pretty close to being right overhead too. After they merged itmostly mellowed out into just a rainstorm...but also rained most of the night (which rain lasting that long is fairly rare fairly here)
Those rapid-fire lightning (as I call them) storms are awesome to watch! Even here it doesn't happen very often, but sounds like you guys get even less. I can totally understand your little sister being scared at that age!
