General Electric GE LU400/40 High pressure sodium lamp 400W
a lamp I have had in my collection for many years now but Have only lit just now

is this unusual US GE High pressure sodium lamp, made for export with an E40 cap (hence the /40 in the order code)

it interesting as it still retains its US ED18 bulb shape, most US made GE HPS lamps over here did have European style straight sided tubular bulbs despite being US made

so I find this one quite an interesting example

It could also one of the oldest HPS lamps in my collection, I know its from the 1980's but I dont know when exactly its date code is 02 im pretty sure (with dot-dash indicating it was made at the Ravenna, OH lamp plant) 02 could be either Feb 1980 or Feb 1988, but I dont know which exactly, if someone does know I would be most grateful if you could let me know :)

(for what its worth the box is the paper type with ends that tuck in, rather then a folded card arrangement with opening flaps on the end)

I always like how the European Arcstream lamps use this shape too.

yeah! id like to get one of those someday Smile although I believe the Arcstream lamps have a slightly different bulb shape that was inherited by GE when they took over Tungsram's operations in the Early 90's (and now Tungsram is back, funny how things go full circle!)
