I always assumed the two on the left to be older stock, rightly or wrongly.

They are. D1 is April 1981 (later that same year, Philips replaced the crimp cap with a plain version). This was therefore in place by February 1982, when your B2s were made. The switch from crimp to plain happened four years previously on T5, during the summer of 1977.
