Danny if you can visit the NW, a couple are yours for a nominal palm-crossing (no blood required but I did have to pay for them).

You've hit the jackpot! 8' 85W/840 has been on my 'wanted list' for ages. I wouldn't mind purchasing 2 or 3 of these from you if possible? Cool

what colour are these then in old money, as i only know the old colours of the 80's and before. are these like 3 times the brightness then of an old tube even if its new old stock?
Andy   [19 Mar, 2017 at 09:46 PM]
Thanks Nick! Smile
thorncollector   [19 Mar, 2017 at 09:58 PM]

why do so many collectors sing the praises of the later colours? i can see the benifit of being brighter in a shop etc, but in your house, old tubes are bright enough. Got a couple of 8 foot warm whites burning in my kitchen atlantic twin, with clipluve, and thats too bright for me really
Kev   [19 Mar, 2017 at 10:42 PM]
840 is cool white phil probably not a colour you would be in to!
lampy   [19 Mar, 2017 at 10:48 PM]
not really , ok for a garage or supermarket
thorncollector   [19 Mar, 2017 at 10:49 PM]
they maybe newer but they are still rare nowadays..
Kev   [19 Mar, 2017 at 10:51 PM]
Yeh these are really rare I could of had loads of these but stupidly didn't bother I was only just qualified and working up high by myself in a busy shop on AA3s that were hammered!
lampy   [19 Mar, 2017 at 10:53 PM]
i'd use em if i had a job for them, but wouldend hoard them personally
Kev   [19 Mar, 2017 at 11:03 PM]
Few years time phil this will be extinct in fact they are pretty much already they are over 10 years old
lampy   [19 Mar, 2017 at 11:37 PM]

Kev   [19 Mar, 2017 at 11:38 PM]

Kev   [19 Mar, 2017 at 11:38 PM]

lampy   [19 Mar, 2017 at 11:52 PM]
took a 35 sox out the other day, 13 years old ! what hours you burning your 8 foot 85 watt at 10 years life then?
BC5-80   [20 Mar, 2017 at 06:34 PM]
lampy your kitchen must be big to accommodate an 8' twin. I bet it looks amazing with the Clipluves. Last time I saw those was in my school art room on single 5-footers in 1976-1977. (PS I bet you'd be sold if you saw the effect of 840s, especially with how triphosphors bring reds screaming to attention in comparison to non-deluxe halophosphates.)
