IBM ThinkLight
IBM ThinkLight in operation.
The older IBM and later Lenovo ThinkPad laptops had a little LED built into the screen bezel which was aimed at the keyboard.
A nice way of illuminating the keyboard and surrounding area when in the dark!.
Now replaced by LED backlit keyboards of course, but there is something I find quite charming about this old way.

I love these old ThinkPad laptops tbh. This model was about £1800+ brand new back in the day and are built like brick shithouses, even by todays standards!
This one is still rocking on with Windows 10 and is by no means a powerhouse by todays standards but is still quite capable for light work and web use.

HP used an 'above lit' keyboard solution like this on their Probook's back in the day. I've got one in my kitchen that I use for playing podcasts etc. It's rocking a Core2duo L9400(?) and Windows 10 which runs better than Windows 7 did on it!

This just has C2D T7400 in it but I'm tempted to turn it into a FrankenPad by fitting it with the more modern mainboard from a T61 which gives more options for ram and CPU. Can be done cheap enough these days lol.

Probably much less load on the battery compared to a whole back lit keyboard
