300w Linear halogen floor uplighter converted to 35w CMH
Really was just a case of swapping out the lamp and wiring the ballast in line, looks like it was made for it :)
The head doesn't even get warm with the 35w lamp so going 70w if I need more light is no issue.

Lamp is a 35w Venture ceramic master in colour 942 and the ballast is a Philips HID-PV C 35/G CDM PrimaVision.

I was worried that the cable capacitance might affect starting performance but that is not an issue.
I don't like the standard wiring so I'll be changing it anyway because I can.

The glass shield is very thick and I reckon halide and sodium lamps that have the exhaust tip on the side might not fit.

This is working quite well. I replaced the two-core flex with some 3-core cable so now it's earthed and I like it very much indeed! 35w halide is just right to be honest! I've ordered a couple of 35w GE lamps in 830 since the Venture 942 lamp is slightly too cool, something a bit warmer will top this off nicely I reckon. Everybody should have one of these converted to HID!!!
